Running Total using SUMIF Function

Welcome to Excel Jet Consult blog post. In this tutorial, we gonna learn how to use the SUMIF Function to calculate Running Total in Excel. Let’s dive in.

In the caption below, we have product catalog dataset we are going to use

Running Total Calculation

In cell K2, execute the formula: =SUMIF($A$2:A2,A2,$J$2:$J$1992)

In the above formula, we applied absolute cell reference to the first A2 while the second A2 is relative – this is the input value for the range argument. Secondly, we provided A2 as the input value for the criteria and finally, we provided cell J2 to J1992 all in absolute cell reference as the input value for the sum_range.

From the screenshot below, we can clearly see that we have Running Total that works!
