The Sort By Column is located in the Sort group of the Modelling tab. In the below, we created a quick report using Table visualization. The report is based on Total Revenue by Month. However, we discovered that the Month name was alphabetized which is not the proper month order
Therefore, to display the month in the proper month order, we need to create an helper sort column based on the Month name.
Therefore, in the Calculations group of the Modelling tab, click on New Column
In the formula bar, execute the formula: Sort Order = MONTH(‘Date'[Date])
Click Enter
Note, we used the Month DAX function on the ‘Date’[Date]. The Month function returns number 1 (January) to 12 (December) representing each month
Select the Month column and click on Sort by Column dropdown
From the drop-down, click on Sort Order
What we have done implies that January which has Sort Order 1 will come first all through to December which has Sort Order 12 will come last in the Month Order
When we click on the Report view, we can see that we have the Months in proper month order
